I might have to get one of these castles from Tabletop Workshop. Hard plastic mouldings and clip together for easy transport. http://www.tabletopworkshop.co.uk/pre-order-castle.html ; (click here)

I like the look but it is difficult to think of castles with identical towers - normally the larger towers were built at different times & varied quite a bit. I like the brattices in this kit & the covered wallwalks. I have never found a decent set of siege rules

That's the thing isn't it? I like the idea of built up areas and fortifications but they have to be playable in a tabletop game to be worth investing. Attacks on outworks/ breaches and hasty defenses seem like the most likely to have gamable opportunities.

The other problem is groundscale - the castle models are just too big to match the base sizes - a single tower must represent the major part of a castle. It would be easier with a norman keep representing the entire castle area.

Ground scale is utterly elastic, skirmish scale 1:1 can be played if you feel like it. I have gone for the smallest castle to use as the basis of a town wall. I will now get all their building kits at 50% next year, so a pretty good deal I reckon; they have some good stuff in the pipeline.
