I have been thinking recently that a multiplayer 18th C. campaig might be fun. Maybe even one with a slice of imagi-nation about it, although more founded in real history than some of these seem to be. I have been thinking about how to convert Theatre of War to be multiplayer and also usable as a more "play by mail" sort of format.

I am certainly going to use the idea of armies being a finite numeric value and only being coverted to the sopecific units for a  tabletop battle, using either a roster system or a version of Beat the Drum. My early thoughts are to have France, Prussia, Austria-Hungary and Russia as the main protagonists. With British and Barbary corsairs as bit players and Turkish and  Hindoo-Persian empires as a potential additions. Starting situation around 1710 - 20ish.

Probably need to add at least Savoy (big involvement in WSS) for that time period, maybe Spain (WSS & Barbary) as well as 'bit' players ?

But I'm in. Don't care who either. Have you looked at the PK Napoleonic system - Grand PK  ? I've got it if you want a look, I'll scout around for any others that I have.

I am basing the protagonists very much on what figures we have/ will have over the coming months. (I should probably add the Swedish Kingdom to that list then...)  Where there are a limited number of painted units available for a nationality, the spaces on the roster will be filled with militia units (levied in LoA troops.) Every campaign year the players can introduce new units to their roster, to replace some of the militia or on a like for like basis.

Grand PK is I think a corps level wargame rather than a campaign system but I remember that froma rather cursory flick through.

count me in BUT I will not be buying WSS figures!

Pity you are not thinking of 1740 to 1763 period.

Would you intend to include naval games?

I am thinking of 1720 to 1770. With that sort of blind ambition you think I will avoid including naval warfare?!  :)

France will have the biggest opportunities and threats as far as naval warfare is concerned. They will start with a Hindoo trading station and have 2 aggressive naval powers on either side of them in the British and Barbary Turks. A modification of ToW (points based fleets and rosters) can also be used for this. I think it will again be a case of painted models for the period count as real warships; proxies that must be used will all count as armed merchantmen.

Prussia and Russia can build Baltic fleets if they fancy restarting the Great Northern Wars. I'm not sure that Austria will want to spend the resources to build a fleet in the Med.

Excellent question. Nick already has  some, so not that scale obviously!

I would have thought 1/1200 is most likely or maybe 1/600. You already have some then? Or are you thinking of the Napoleonic version of Wings of War that is comin/has come out?

Not vital to choose which nation you want now, but are there any shouts for one in particular from anyone?
