I cleaned up and undercoated the Krauts today. Minimal work required, I did have to assemble the mortar team (and remembered the tedium of basing 6mm figures.) Used Halfords grey primer undercoat as it is slightly finer finish than the Pound Shop primer I usually use. Tommorrow I will try a coat of green to cover the bases with some streaks of sand colour to break up the monotony.

Step 1 complete. The green (from Wilkinsons) covered nicely and will make a good base for field grey. The brown covered a bit more that I planned on but I think the effect of varying ground will work okay. Painting time so far 10 minutes. Next step is to give the whole lot a wash of dark grey/green to blend the background together and fill the shadows on the figures.

Step 2 complete. Brought home to me the advantages of ready mixed washes. Namely that you are not working with a paint that is rapidly drying and thus covers to different amounts/ needs water continually adding. Not such as issue with WW2 which can look a bit scruffy... Time taken so far 23 minutes. Next step is to do a semi-drybrush on all the field grey uniform bits leaving dark green shadows.

Step 3 complete. (and part of Step 4) Again mixing my own fieldgrey was a time consuming pain I will look at investing in some premixed WW2 colours soon. Got carried away and started on the boots (black), helmets and gasmask cases (darker shade of fieldgrey) and bits of brown on rifles. Time elapsed 1 hour 38 minutes (would have been much quicker with pre-mixed clours) Just machine guns and mortars to do in gunmetal and maybe camo-covers on officers helments to see at a glance where they are.

Finished this batch of German infantry. I decided to do a little bit of drybrushing on the bases to lighten them up and cover where I had missed the figures with the feldgrau! Time elapsed 3 hours 8 minutes. Only thing left to do is give them a coat of acrylic matt varnish (the work of seconds with a spray can.) When and if we reach a decision on a stand shape + size may well base these up as they are quite fiddly on the integral bases, partly due to being mainly prone (which I really like the look of.)

Upload your photos to photobucket, images hack or a similar free hosing site. http://photobucket.com Click here. then use the button on the text frame ( looks like a picture of a monitor screen) and insert the URL of the picture when prompted.

Where are all these lovely piccies of painted figures you promised us Jim? Are you going to pencil in a game for 2015 so that we can all be inspired to finish off some basing and start trying out rules sets?

I'm about to start on my 28mm German company ( this after finally deflashing the figures.), will probably prime up all three platoons 1st and then detail them up before starting on the mortars and artillery. at last, some incentive and effort combined
