This party of King's Guards and dragoons were tasked with escorting the wagons (and priests) off the table, in the direction that they had come from. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836890 190836890 Donnybrook Skirmish, France 1680s Amongst the continuously regenerating mobs of angry locals was one small band of rebel cavalry. Naturally they all died! https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836886 190836886 Donnybrook Skirmish, France 1680s Disarmed Hugenot regular soldiers blocked the bridge, prepared to sell themselves dearly though only left with smallswords and clubs. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836891 190836891 Donnybrook Skirmish, France 1680s The Royalists retrieved the wagons (with the aid of some astonishing "ninja" priests) and headed for home. Blocking their way the angry local villagers with their fowling pieces and hatred of tyranny! https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836881 190836881 The Boyne The famous battle of 1690 King James II confronts his nephew King William III in Ireland. The massed regiments of Danes, Hugenot French and English waded across the river underfire from Jacobite guns and tried to form a beachhead on the other side. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836882 190836882 The Boyne After a deadly struggle the Williamites threw back or destroyed the Jacobite forces defending the riverbank but at the cost of the destruction of both battalions of the elite Dutch Guard. The Jacobite cavalry now took up the fight. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836885 190836885 The Boyne After pinning the Williamites to the river with cunning delaying tactics by their dragoons, the Jacobite cavalry launched a series of devastating charges. They were able to wipe out two regiments of foot, capturing Danish colours in the process and damage several more regiments. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836887 190836887 The Boyne Despite the heroics of the cavalry the Williamites were able tomaintain their hold on the riverbank as reinforcements of infantry and cavalry waded across. Time had been won however for the Jacobite foot to form a new defensive line anchored on the village of Oldbridge. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836888 190836888 The Boyne The implacable Williamites advanced on the Jacobite position and a fierce firefight ensued. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836883 190836883 The Boyne Neither side was willing to give way but eventuaslly the front line of Hugenot and Danish foot were forced to retire. This was to be no unlikely victory however. Fresh reserves of Williamite troops were available for the attack and the Jacobite defences had been severly battered by the supporting guns. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836889 190836889 The Boyne At this point the French brigade departed the battlefield having adhered to their secret orders not to get involved in the battle. The remaining Jacobites were left with no option but to retreat and concede the day. https://wargamewarrior.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=190836884 190836884
